Michael Tsepo Jacobs brings a unique blend of experience and passion for art to his new role as The Silo’s Art Concierge, where he will create curated art and retail experiences for guests of The Royal Portfolio in Cape Town.
NEW YORK – The Royal Portfolio, the award-winning collection of luxury hotels, resorts and safari lodges throughout South Africa, has announced the appointment of Michael Tsepo Jacobs as the new Art Concierge and Guest Liaison at The Silo Hotel in Cape Town.
Prior to joining The Royal Portfolio, Michael was a member of the founding team of the Zeitz MOCAA (Museum of Contemporary Art Africa) – the treasure house of contemporary African art that is located directly beneath The Silo Hotel in Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront – where he specialized in private tours of the museum, setting a standard for guiding that is still followed by the museum’s staff today. Born into a creative family in Cape Town, Michael has been the curator of some of the Mother City’s leading luxury, art and design spaces. He was instrumental in introducing such local Cape Town fashion designers as Adrian Kuiters and Jody Paulsen to a global audience.
Michael brings a unique blend of experience and passion for art to his new role as The Silo’s Art Concierge, where he will create curated art and retail experiences for guests of The Royal Portfolio in Cape Town. Using The Silo Hotel as a launchpad, Michael will lead hotel guests on bespoke tours that encompass some of Cape Town’s most cutting-edge artist studios and include opportunities to engage with the artists themselves and purchase artworks. He is committed to amplifying the African voices that are revisiting Africa’s complex ancient and modern narratives.
“Collecting art has always been a passion of mine,” says Liz Biden, co-owner, designer and art curator of The Silo, along with its sister properties in The Royal Portfolio. “And in Michael, I’m delighted to have found an Art Concierge who shares my love for contemporary African art, and who is fearlessly adding his own authentic voice to the conversation around how Africa is depicted.”
