SANDPOINT, ID – MKM Trust, owner and developer of Schweitzer, announces that it has agreed to sell Schweitzer’s resort operations assets to Alterra Mountain Company. Schweitzer expands Alterra’s portfolio in the Pacific Northwest, joining Crystal Mountain in Washington. The addition of Schweitzer will bring the company’s total to 17 year-round mountain destinations throughout North America.

As the only mountain resort within the MKM Trust portfolio for the past 18 years, Schweitzer has been consistently recognized as one of the region’s top ski destinations, in part due to significant strategic investments that have been made over the past several years. With room for growth and plans for future expansion and development, MKM’s decision to exit the resort operations business puts Schweitzer in a favorable position to begin a new chapter with Alterra at the helm.

“Since becoming an Ikon Pass partner in 2021, we’ve had the good fortune of learning how Alterra Mountain Company has quickly evolved into an industry leader,” said Tom Chasse, President and CEO of Schweitzer. “The company’s commitment to preserving the authenticity of their mountain communities while investing in the overall mountain experience is what we’re most looking forward to as the newest member of the Alterra family.”

Starting in the early 2000’s, over $100M in capital has been invested into Schweitzer to help fortify itself as a premier destination in the Pacific Northwest, including terrain expansion, 5 new lifts, Sky House – on-mountain day lodge, Humbird – a 31-unit boutique hotel in Schweitzer’s village, and Cambium – a brand new wellness spa.

“With an incredible mountain in one of the most beautiful settings in the country and a world-class operating team, Schweitzer has everything we look for in a destination,” said Jared Smith, President & CEO, Alterra Mountain Company. “The mountain has been a valued partner on the Ikon Pass for several seasons so we’ve been able to see the exceptional team, community, and opportunities for continued investment up close.”

Tom Chasse will stay on as President and CEO of Schweitzer and will oversee daily operations of the destination and future capital improvement plans.

The MKM Trust, which has been the owner and developer of Schweitzer for the past 18 years, will retain non-ski operations real estate holdings, and will continue to lead future real estate development projects that support the vibrancy of the Schweitzer community.

The transaction is expected to close later in 2023, and is subject to certain closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. More details will be released once the transaction has closed.

Icehotel partner up with the Swedish entrepreneurial company Vidde, building tomorrow’s sustainable electric snowmobile. The partnership aims to pave the way for a more sustainable future and to offer Icehotel guests a unique outdoor experience engaging all five senses.

Every year, when the Torne River turns to ice, a new Icehotel is created in the small village of Jukkasjärvi in the north of Sweden. The river’s ice transforms to design and architecture – an ephemeral art project and the world’s first and largest hotel built of snow and ice. In addition to this unique art and hotel experience, hotel guests can experience several outdoor activities. Some of the far most popular are snowmobile tours in the wilderness, searching for the magical Northern lights.

In the future, Icehotel will be able to offer guests a beautiful snowmobile ride in the wilderness in complete silence. This is thanks to Vidde’s electric and sustainable snowmobile. This opportunity will give the guests an exceptional experience and feeling of being present in nature in a completely new and unique way.

In Spring 2023, Vidde will build the first prototype for the world’s most durable electrified snowmobile, and it will be named Frankenstein or Frank. The plan is for the Swedish-made snowmobile to be in commercial production at the turn of 2024–2025.

“To offer our guests a snowmobile safari tour in total silence feels amazing. To partner up with Vidde and introduce this cool and sleek machine in our facility is the right step forward in our sustainability thinking. Going out on a snowmobile ride on a day when the sun is shining and the sounds you hear are merely from the birds, dogs or the snow that creaks feels incredibly harmonious and luxurious,” says Marie Herrey, CEO Icehotel.

The electric snowmobile will have a battery pack sufficient for a ride of 10 miles of driving and is enclosed in a unique thermos that protects against the cold. Icehotel will be an essential part of the development and will play a significant role in the development of Vidde.

“Testing and developing Vidde with the conditions that surrounds Icehotel is perfect for us. Here you have the unique combination of periodically severe arctic cold, a wide spread of users from all over the world with different prior knowledge, and everyone sharing the dream of being close to nature. Added to this is our shared vision of creating a solution that makes a long-term difference for the climate. All This makes it possible for guests to experience a fantastic serene snowmobile ride across Torne Älv and chase the unique northern lights,” concludes Christian Lystrup, CEO Vidde Mobility.

PALO ALTO, CALIF. – Touchless self-checkout system Mashgin and Alterra Mountain Company, owners of 15 North American mountain destinations, announce the first deployment of computer vision-powered self-checkout terminals at a ski destination.

Mashgin and Alterra have partnered to speed up the checkout experience at a number of food and beverage facilities at Alterra resorts, saving guests valuable time to get back on the slopes. The new self-checkout kiosks at Palisades Tahoe, Big Bear Mountain Resort and Mammoth Mountain in California, and Winter Park Resort in Colorado, enable customers to check out in seconds, shortening lines and improving the guest experience.

Developed specifically to accommodate families and groups, Mashgin’s multi-tray functionality feature captures multiple trays of food and beverage items and rings each up in a single checkout transaction, making it easy for families or groups to conveniently self-checkout multiple trays of food together.

Mashgin uses AI-powered computer vision to recognize and ring up objects up to 10x faster than traditional checkout with a cashier. The kiosks instantly identify packaged goods, produce, and open-plated food items – a burger, bowl of chili, combo meal plate, a piece of fruit – from any angle. Mashgin uses cameras to identify and read existing visual information such as colors, shapes, sizes, and other features in much the same way a human eye does. Items don’t have to lie flat or with their barcode exposed to a scanner. Once placed on the kiosk tray, Mashgin instantaneously identifies the items, enabling customers to checkout within seconds.

According to the National Ski Areas Association (NSAA), U.S. ski areas reported nearly 61M visits by skiers and snowboarders in the 2021/2022 season – the highest number on record – demonstrating the industry’s resilience. As ski resorts prepare for an equally busy 2022-2023 season, the rollout of Mashgin will enable more skiers and snowboarding enthusiasts to spend less time waiting in line for food and beverages and more time on the slopes.

“We are excited to partner with Alterra Mountain Company and bring computer vision-powered checkout to mountain resorts for the first time,” said Mashgin Vice President of Strategic Partnerships, Jack Hogan. “Mashgin’s self-checkout system will let skiers and riders get the most out of their days on the slopes by slashing wait times so they can return to their winter fun.”

The article Tips for buying rain jacket for women first appeared in TravelDailyNews International.

]]>
The rain is not a friend to anyone. It can ruin your day, cause you to get sick, and even ruin your outfit. A rain jacket is important and necessary if you don't want that to happen. You need a rain jacket for women that will keep you dry and ensure your style doesn't suffer. Many options are available on the market today, and it can be difficult to know which is right for you.

This post will give tips on choosing the right one for yourself or someone.

Think about how you'll be wearing the jacket
Choosing the right rain jacket can be a difficult decision. There are many factors to consider, such as price, style, and functionality. To make the most educated choice possible, it’s important to consider how you’ll wear your rain jacket. This will help you determine what features are most important in a rain jacket for women and whether or not they are worth paying extra for.

Buy the right size
Your rain jacket should be neither too big nor too small. It should be neither too long nor too short. And it certainly shouldn't be too tight or loose on your body. If you're unsure what size to get, take some time to try a few different styles before deciding.

When it comes to sizing, there's no such thing as one-size-fits-all for rain jackets for women—or any other type of clothing, for that matter. You might want to go down a size if you like things fitted and form-fitting; otherwise, go up if you prefer the looser look.

Pay attention to features that make a difference in quality
As far as the rain jacket is concerned, there are many things that you should keep in mind. The first thing that you need to look for is a good waterproof material. If the material of your rain jacket can't resist water, it will be useless.

It's also important that your rain jacket has a hood attached to it because it will protect your head from getting wet during rainy seasons and provide an extra layer of protection for your face. Another important feature is having drawstring waistbands so that you can adjust them according to yourself or even put on some thick clothes underneath.

Choose a design that's functional yet fashionable
The first thing to remember when shopping for a rain jacket is that it should be functional. You don't want to sacrifice function for fashion—looking good while staying dry is important. Look for a design with a hood and waterproofing that comes up high enough to cover your head and face when it rains. This is especially critical if you have long hair that sometimes gets caught in the wind or rain. The last thing you want is being caught walking down a busy street with wet hair sticking straight out of your head like an anime character.

Try on different styles
It's important to try on different styles and sizes of rain jackets for women before purchasing one. Not only will this help you find the right fit, but it will also allow you to pick a style that fits your personal taste.

If possible, visit an outdoor gear store and try on several styles of rain jackets. If they don't have any in stock, try ordering online and returning anything that doesn't work for you.

Conclusion
Don't be afraid to try on several styles of jackets. The best way to find the one that's right for you is by trying it on and seeing how it feels. You'll also want to consider the color, pattern, and material options available to choose something that matches your personal style.

The Cinque Torri, five craggy peaks high in the Italian Dolomites, offers the upscale town of Cortina D'Ampezzo both a stunning backdrop and exceptional skiing. Following the 1956 Winter Olympics, which occurred here, the world's most attractive individuals began to flock to Cortina, making it their favored winter destination for many years.

It still features the upscale stores and hip entertainment options you'd anticipate of a sophisticated European ski resort, even though its customer has grown significantly.

3. Deplar Farm, Olafsfjordur, Iceland
This luxurious ski holiday resort is best for heli-skiing, surpassing all its standards. It is located in a rural valley in Iceland, between mountains and a fjord. Although the renovated sheep farm has a black timber front and a traditional grass roof, the latter is broken up by glass walls that house 12 opulent bedrooms.

A spa with five treatment rooms, heated outdoor and indoor pools, two flotation tanks, hot tubs, and a sauna are located downstairs. Upstairs are a private cinema, game area, and wine cellar. In addition to navigating peak-to-fjord descents, stunning colors, and enormous powder bowls, visitors of Eleven Experience can also enjoy snowcat skiing above the farm, cruising around on snowmobiles, snowshoeing, and cold-water surfing on non-ski days.

4. Le Pashmina, Val Thorens, France
Are you one of the skiers who love accumulating piste miles? If yes, Le Pashmina, Val Thorens is France's best and most lavish resort, offering 3 valleys and the world's largest ski area. Moreover, it's an expensive refuge mirroring the top-notch mountaineering roots of its owners. This exotic resort provides:

 • Complimentary yoga sessions.
 • Annual winter camps with zero-cost ski tuition.
 • Weekly guided ski touring excursions.
 • Evening talks from notable Alpinists.

Upon visiting this ski resort, you can see it's beautifully decorated with hand-woven Peruvian rugs and Tibetan prayer wheels.

5. Vail Mountain Resort, Colorado, USA
In 2023, you shouldn't miss out on this resort if you want a luxurious stay. Vail, one of the largest ski resorts in the world and the largest in Colorado, has enough terrain to occupy a skier of any ability level. Long, well-kept runs look out over Vail's opulent hotels, upmarket eateries, and designer boutiques.

The seven back bowls, kept in top shape by the anticipated 350 inches of snowfall annually, are where experts find bumps and glades. As a result, Vail is renowned for its variety in addition to its vastness (with 5,289 acres of skiable terrain served by 31 lifts). Riders will enjoy the three terrain parks, and backcountry skiers will discover powder paradise.

6. St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria
Serious skiers travel to the Arlberg region of Austria for no-nonsense, challenging terrain, which they may find at St. Anton on the more than a dozen remarkable routes. The challenging 10-kilometer Valluga-St. Anton route has an elevation difference of 1,347 meters, making it the longest.

However, even the red-marked pistes in this resort are far more complicated than those in other Alpine destinations. St. Anton is renowned for its mega-moguls, particularly on Schindler Kar, and for its 200 off-piste possibilities for expert skiers, many of which require a guide.

7. St. Moritz, Switzerland
Although around 30% of the terrain in St. Moritz is categorized as black, there are a lot of off-piste, some backcountry, and some designated tours. Since it is less well-known for off-piste skiing, it is kept a secret, which means that its backcountry runs are less frequently used and, as a result, are not as closely monitored as the more well-known locations.

St. Moritz has a lot of credentials to set itself apart from the other ski resorts in Switzerland, including the claim that it was the first winter resort in Europe and is still one of its most opulent. However, there is no denying the difficulty of skiing in the area's surrounding mountains, even though it may be recognized for its glamour and social life.

8. CampZero, Champoluc, Italy
Everything at CampZero was designed to combine luxury and adventure, from the ice climbing wall that hangs down the exterior of the spectacular glass and larch-clad hotel to its treehouse massage room. The 30-bedroom hotel, located in the remote Ayas Valley five minutes from Champoluc, is committed to fulfilling its vision of being an active luxury resort in Italy.

In addition to the outdoor ice wall, the resort offers a sizable indoor climbing wall (which can also be viewed from the bar while sipping a cocktail), a helipad to take advantage of the excellent local heli-skiing and an on-site mountain guide to customizing Alpine adventures to guests' individual preferences.

9. The Omnia, Zermatt, Switzerland
There are several luxurious resorts in the car-free town of Zermatt, which is dotted with cobbled lanes, vintage timber chalets, and the Matterhorn's triangular silhouette. However, the 30-room Omnia, carved into the slope right across from the Matterhorn, stands out from the luxury pack thanks to its cutting-edge glass and timber exteriors, chic interiors, fine dining restaurant, and impeccable service.

The tiny resort is famed for its gloriously sensual spa enclosed in smoke-mirrored glass and its indoor/outdoor pool lit by blazing oil lamps and with views of the Matterhorn. It is accessed by an underground entrance blasted into the rock and a glass elevator.
